Nashik is Maharashtra's wine country, a high plateau of vineyards, river ghats and old temples about three and a half hours from Mumbai. It is where the city comes to slow down without going far.
The valley holds India's best known wineries, Sula and York among them, and the cooler months bring the grape harvest, tastings and long lunches under the vines. Beyond the wine there is the Trimbakeshwar temple, the Pandavleni caves and the quiet ghats along the Godavari.
Our Nashik villas are chosen for space and view: room to gather a large group, a pool for the warm afternoons, and the kind of silence only open countryside gives.
Best time to visit
October to March is the most comfortable, with clear skies, cool evenings and the wine harvest. The monsoon, June to September, turns the whole valley deep green for those who love the rain.
Getting there
About 165 km from Mumbai, a three and a half to four hour drive, and around 210 km from Pune, roughly four and a half hours. The nearest major airport is Mumbai.
